TV Review
Television series depend heavily on Nielsen ratings. Sometimes you will see a series moved into a different time slots or different days to boost ratings. The average episode count for a full season on prime time a little over 20 episodes.
Initially a new television series will receive an initial order of 13 episodes. However, nine or less episodes may be produced and even less aired.
There is what is called “The Bubble” were a series tethers on cancellation or renewal. This depends on several factors.
Strength of ratings of that series overall. Star power of the actors on the show. Weakness of other series within that particular network. Studio executives willing to extend the series for another year.
The official announcement usually released in May. However, series such as Terra Nova got their pink slip early. Once a television series is placed on the bubble it is more likely canceled then renewed.
