10 Upcoming Movie Remakes

Judge Dredd 2012 - Karl Urban dressed in red/black helmet and armor

Movie

Hollywood loves to remake movies. Is it the lack of new material? Or is it just easier to use old material and modernize it? Whatever the reason, some movies simply should not be remade.

Here’s a list of a 10 well-known movies in development set to be release within the next couple of years.

1. Dredd
Do you remember Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone? Dredd was judge, jury and executioner. It was Sly’s bomb-of-a-movie as it brought in only 35 million in the US. New Zealand actor Karl Urban will take over the role as Judge Dredd. Karl played “Bones” in the latest Star Trek movie. Release date September 21, 2012.

2. Dirty Dancing
Two movies in this franchise. Why remake the original when it the music and movie were-are so iconic. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey were great together. “Nobody puts baby in a corner.” No actors yet attached to the project. Release date July 26, 2013.

3. Carrie
Who could forget the bucket full of pig’s blood scene on Sissy Spacek? It’s been 36 years since this movie hit the theaters. It’s one of the most memorable horror movies of all time. No stars attached for movie remake. Release date 2013.

4. My Fair Lady
Audrey Hepburn was a delightful wench of a flower girl. The 1964 film was nominated for 12 Oscars and won 8 including “Best Picture.” Hepburn won the Golden Globe for lead actress. This was a highly successful film and iconic. How can an actor replace Audrey Hepburn! Release date 2013.

5. Red Dawn
Instead of an invasion from the Soviet Union, there will be an invasion from North Korea. That’s how they modernized the storyline. Thor star Chris Hemsworth will lead the helm. Who knows, this might actually have a chance. Release date November 2, 2012.

6. Mad Max: Fury Road
Mel Gibson IS Mad Max. Tom Hardy who co-starred in the romantic spy comedy, This Means War will take over the role. (Good luck!) Charlize Theron attached. Release date 2013.

7. Annie
Say it ain’t so. More than enough movies, television shows, Broadway musicals about Annie. Willow Smith, daughter of Will and Jada Smith attached to star. Her brother Jaden starred in the remake of Karate Kid, which brought in 176 million domestically. Maybe the Smith family has the Midas touch. Set for release in 2013.

8. Robocop
You are kidding me! Maybe with the advancements of special effects this will be a better movie and have a decent plot (cough, cough). Joel Kinnaman attached to star in the movie remake. Set to release in 2013.

9. Short Circuit
“Number 5 is alive!” Ally Sheedy was so cute in this film. I don’t see how they can recreate the “charm” between Ally and the military prototype robot. Movie remake in preproduction. Release date set in 2013. No stars yet attached.

10. The Birds
This is a joke right? Universal big-budget remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic 1963 horror film is a joke, right? Hitchcock’s Birds is one of the most memorable horror films of all times. With new special effect technology it will be interesting to see what they can do with this classic. Naomi Watts attached. Movie remake release date 2013 or later.
